ForwardX Robotics provides vision-based autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and autonomous forklifts for the logistics, manufacturing, and retail sectors. The company was founded in April 2016 by Nicolas Chee, who currently serves as the CEO. Chee's background includes a postgraduate degree in Integrated Circuits, winning the international Robocon robotics competition, and holding senior roles at SAP and Oracle, where he headed the SaaS division. This experience in robotics and enterprise software shaped his vision for the company.

Initially, ForwardX explored a consumer product—an autonomous suitcase—but pivoted to a B2B model after identifying strong demand for commercial warehouse solutions. The company's core business revolves around developing and deploying intelligent automation for material handling, including picking, docking, and storage management. Its business model involves providing these end-to-end solutions to clients, which include major corporations like L'Oreal, IKEA, Walmart, SF DHL, and BYD. ForwardX operates on a global scale, with a presence across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, supported by over 150 commercial projects and more than 3,000 deployed robots.

The company’s product portfolio includes several AMR families—Flex, Max, Apex, and Lynx—designed for specific workflows. These robots are managed by the proprietary f(x) Fleet Manager software, an AI-driven platform that orchestrates the robot fleet for optimized routing and task management. A key technological differentiator is the use of vision-based navigation, which allows the AMRs to perceive their environment and adapt to dynamic conditions, a departure from more traditional navigation methods. This technology has enabled clients to see significant efficiency improvements, with some, like SF DHL, reporting up to a 200% increase in picking efficiency. The company also offers a Robots as a Service (RaaS) model. Headquartered in Beijing, China, ForwardX has raised approximately $140 million in funding and operates a 115,000-square-foot production facility to manage the entire manufacturing process in-house.
