Flexcavo, established in July 2020 by Benedict Aicher and Leonhard Fricke, operates within the construction technology sector, aiming to address the industry's lag in digitalization. The company provides a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform, FlexcavoOS, designed to serve construction companies and equipment rental firms. This central operating system enables clients to manage their machinery and equipment fleets, streamlining processes from the yard to the construction site.

The business model initially involved two primary pillars: renting construction equipment from established manufacturers and developing software for digital fleet management. This dual approach allowed Flexcavo to gain direct insights into the rental process, which informed the development of their software. Over time, the company has increasingly focused on its position as a software specialist. The platform facilitates data-enabled workflow and process management, helping to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve collaboration across various locations like construction sites, yards, and headquarters. Key features of FlexcavoOS include data-driven resource scheduling, telematics-enabled workflow automation, a position timeline view for equipment location and scheduling, and project-based cost allocation. The system is OEM-agnostic, allowing for the integration and exchange of machine and logistics data between new and existing IT systems via API interfaces.

Since its founding, Flexcavo has achieved significant milestones, including several funding rounds. The company secured a seed round in September 2021 and another funding round in February 2022, raising a total of over $15 million. This capital was used to expand its rental fleet and open new rental parks, such as the one in Maisach, near Munich. A pivotal moment in the company's history was its acquisition by Trackunit, a global IoT services provider, on January 1, 2023. This acquisition was a strategic move for Trackunit to extend its reach into the contractor market and enhance its offerings for clients with mixed fleets. For Flexcavo, joining the Trackunit ecosystem provided the opportunity for deeper integration into the contractor value chain and significantly boosted its development capabilities.
