Founded in 2009 by Shyam Sheth and Rick Segal, who also served as CEO, the Toronto-based company established itself in the mobile security sector. Rick Segal's extensive background in technology with entities like the U.S. Air Force, Microsoft, and Samsung informed Fixmo's direction in creating robust security solutions.

The company's business model revolved around providing software and services that addressed mobile security, risk management, and compliance. Its client base primarily consisted of government bodies, including a significant relationship with the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as enterprises in sectors like healthcare. A key aspect of Fixmo's technology development was its Co-operative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA), which allowed it to commercialize and advance powerful MRM technologies initially developed by the agency.

Fixmo's product suite was designed to provide comprehensive mobile security. The flagship product, Fixmo Sentinel, was a mobility platform that ensured devices started and remained in a trusted state through continuous integrity monitoring and compliance reporting. Another key offering, Fixmo SafeZone, created a secure, encrypted container on personal devices to protect corporate data and applications, catering to the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) trend. The company also offered Fixmo AppZone for mobile application management and Fixmo SharePlace for secure access to Microsoft SharePoint. These products could be deployed together under the Fixmo MRM platform, a federated solution for defense-grade mobile security. The company successfully raised approximately $31.4 million in funding from notable investors including Motorola Solutions, Samsung Venture Investment, Kleiner Perkins, and Paladin Capital. In June 2014, Good Technology acquired Fixmo, a move that integrated Fixmo's device integrity and tamper detection technology into Good's security platform and resolved an ongoing patent infringement lawsuit between the two companies.
