Fits.me
Fit recommendation solution for eCommerce
About Fits.me
Fits.me was an Estonian technology company established in 2010 by co-founders Heikki Haldre and Paul Pällin. The inspiration for the company stemmed from Haldre's personal frustrations with the inconsistencies of clothing sizes in online retail. As a serial entrepreneur, Haldre, along with Pällin, aimed to solve a major pain point for both consumers and retailers: the high rate of product returns due to poor fit. Their core innovation was a virtual fitting room, a business-to-business solution for online apparel merchants. The service was provided as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) and was integrated into retailers' websites.

The company's technology initially revolved around biomechanical robots, or "FitBots," which could morph into thousands of different body shapes and sizes. Retailers would physically dress these robots in each garment and size, and the resulting fit data would power the virtual fitting room. Online shoppers could input their body measurements to see a visual representation of how an item would fit their specific body shape, aiming to increase buyer confidence and significantly reduce returns. This approach also provided retailers with valuable data on the actual body shapes of their customers, a significant improvement over traditional market segmentation. Over time, the company developed complementary software, such as Fit Advisor and Fit Origin, which provided fit recommendations without requiring photography and used algorithms based on millions of user profiles and garment data.
Fits.me provided its technology to a range of prominent apparel brands, including Hugo Boss, Thomas Pink, and QVC. The business model involved charging retail clients based on the usage of the software. After securing over 10 million dollars in venture capital from investors like Conor Venture Partners and SmartCap, the company was acquired by Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten in July 2015. Following the acquisition, Fits.me was set to operate as a standalone business within Rakuten, continuing to serve its existing clients while expanding into new markets. An update in late 2022 noted the startup appeared to no longer be in business. The founders later started a new company, Miros, to tackle related challenges in e-commerce search.
