The company was founded in 2025 by Daniel Kan, a co-founder of the autonomous vehicle company Cruise, which was acquired by General Motors. Kan served as Chief Product Officer at Cruise before his departure and also co-founded the on-demand personal assistant service, Exec. Fifth Door secured a $20 million seed funding round in late 2025, led by Garry Tan of Y Combinator, Aydin Senkut of Felicis Ventures, and George Bousis of Protagonist Ventures. The company plans to use the capital to expand its technical team, enhance its generative game engine, and onboard its first creators and studios.
