About FibreCoat

FibreCoat GmbH is a materials technology company founded in 2020 by Dr. Robert Brüll (CEO), Richard Haas (COO), and Dr. Alexander Lüking (CSO). The company originated as a spin-off from the Institut für Textiltechnik (ITA) at RWTH Aachen University in Germany, where the founders developed the core technology during their doctoral studies starting in 2014.

The company's business model is centered around a patented, high-speed coating technology that applies metals and polymers onto individual fibre filaments during the spinning process. This manufacturing method allows for the production of high-performance composite fibres at a significantly lower cost compared to traditional alternatives, making advanced materials accessible for mass-market applications. The company primarily serves clients on a B2B basis in sectors such as automotive, space, defense, electronics, construction, and textiles.

FibreCoat's main product lines are AluCoat and PolyCoat. AluCoat consists of aluminum-coated basalt or glass fibres, offering thermal and electrical conductivity, EMI shielding, and high-temperature resistance up to 600°C. It is used for applications like battery shielding in electric vehicles, military countermeasures, heating elements, and radiation protection for spacecraft. PolyCoat features thermoplastic-coated glass fibres designed for lightweighting and reinforcement in composite parts, particularly for the automotive industry. The technology provides advantages such as reduced CO2 emissions during production and full recyclability for its AluCoat product.

The company has achieved significant milestones, including winning 3rd place at the Rice Business Plan Competition in 2021, which helped attract its Series A funding of $3 million later that year. In December 2024, FibreCoat secured nearly €20 million in a Series B funding round co-led by NewSpace Capital and Goose Capital to expand production capacity and further penetrate the space and defense markets.
