Fatwire
Web experience and content management software solutions
About Fatwire
In 1996, a trio of founders, Mark Fasciano, Ari Kahn, and John Murcott, launched Fatwire. Initially, the company bootstrapped its way to its first few million in revenue without venture capital, focusing heavily on professional services to fund the development of their core product idea. Their business was web content management (WCM), providing software that allowed large organizations to manage their online presence. The company's journey involved several strategic acquisitions to build out its platform. A key move came in 2003 when Fatwire acquired the enterprise web content management assets from a company named divine, which included the Content Server product that became central to their offerings. This helped Fatwire solidify its position in the market, focusing on what would evolve into "Web Experience Management," a term for creating a more targeted and interactive online presence for customers. By 2011, Fatwire had become a significant player with around 500 customers. Its growth and technology caught the eye of a titan. In June 2011, Oracle announced it was acquiring Fatwire Software. The acquisition was a strategic move for Oracle to bolster its customer experience management suite, integrating Fatwire’s tools with its own middleware, CRM, and e-commerce products. After the acquisition, Fatwire's technology was rebranded and rolled into Oracle's WebCenter product line, marking the end of one chapter and the integration into a much larger enterprise software story.
