Fast Forward

Fast Forward is a non-profit organization that operates as an accelerator for technology-focused non-profits. Founded in 2014 by Kevin Barenblat and Shannon Farley, it was the first accelerator established exclusively for this sector, and the organization is credited with coining the term "tech nonprofit". Fast Forward's mission is to provide funding, mentorship, and strategic partnerships to empower entrepreneurs who are leveraging technology to address significant social and humanitarian challenges.

The co-founders brought complementary expertise to the venture. Kevin Barenblat has a background in engineering from Stanford, an MBA from Harvard Business School, and experience at both startups and large technology companies before focusing on social impact. Shannon Farley's career includes leading philanthropic communities and working on racial equity in juvenile justice systems after studying at Georgetown University and the London School of Economics. They established Fast Forward to bridge the gap between the technology sector and the non-profit world, creating a support system for founders building tech for social good.

The organization's primary offering is its Startup Accelerator program, a three-month boot camp that provides participants with an unrestricted grant, a tailored curriculum, and mentorship from leaders in the tech and social impact sectors. Upon completion, startups present at a Demo Day to a network of funders and partners. Fast Forward operates as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, receiving financial backing from philanthropic partners and corporations such as Google.org, BlackRock, Salesforce, and the HPE Foundation. To date, its portfolio of over 100 supported organizations has collectively impacted more than 262 million people and secured over $1 billion in subsequent funding.
