About Everything.me
Everything.me, founded in 2010 by Rami Kasterstein, Joey Simhon, and Ami Ben David, was an Israeli startup that developed a contextual launcher for Android devices. Initially known as DoAT, the company operated from Tel Aviv, Israel, and aimed to redefine the mobile experience by making phone homescreens more dynamic and personalized. The core of its offering was an application that surfaced relevant apps, contacts, and information based on the user's context, such as their location, the time of day, and personal preferences. The launcher featured a "Prediction Bar" that would anticipate user needs, offering work-related apps during office hours and entertainment apps at home. It also organized applications into "Smart Folders," which automatically categorized apps and provided recommendations for new ones to discover.

The company successfully attracted significant investor interest, raising over $35 million in funding from prominent venture capital firms including Draper Fisher Jurvetson, BRM Group, Horizons Ventures, and Mozilla. This capital fueled the development of its sophisticated algorithms, which combined machine learning and statistical modeling to identify user scenarios and deliver pertinent content. Despite achieving around 15 million installations, the company faced challenges in monetizing its user base. Its business model was predicated on contextual app and content discovery, but its growth in emerging markets did not translate into sufficient revenue to sustain operations. Consequently, Everything.me officially shut down in October 2015, laying off its 36 employees. The shutdown occurred despite the company still having a decent amount of its funding available, highlighting the difficulty in finding a viable business model for its product.
