ERoom Technology
Internet-based software applications and services that enable organizations to collaborate with their enterprises
About ERoom Technology
In 1996, a group of founders with roots in Lotus Development Corporation, led by CEO Jeffrey Beir, launched a company called Instinctive Technology. Their goal was to create a 'digital workplace'—an online space for project collaboration. The product, named eRoom, provided tools like document management, email, and calendars to help teams work together. The company, later renamed eRoom Technology, gained early traction with major clients like Hewlett-Packard, who used its hosted service. This model, where eRoom ran the software on its own servers for a monthly fee, was an early example of what we now call Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). A significant moment arrived in October 2002 when Documentum, an enterprise content management company, announced it would acquire eRoom Technology. The deal, a mix of cash and stock valued at over $100 million, closed in December of that year. This event marked a major milestone, merging eRoom's collaborative tools with Documentum's content platform and setting the stage for its integration into a much larger enterprise software ecosystem.
