Optical networking equipment for MAN and WAN
About Equipe Communications
Equipe Communications, founded in 1999, was a manufacturer of core network switching equipment. The company specialized in designing and manufacturing products for the optical network market, focusing on asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) and multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) technologies for Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs). Based in Acton, MA, Equipe Communications operated as a privately held company.
The firm was acquired by Sonus Networks in a deal that was completed in August 2012. The acquisition was part of Sonus' strategy to expand its portfolio of Session Border Controller (SBC) solutions and enhance its capabilities in the enterprise market. Sonus Networks later merged with GENBAND in 2017 to form Ribbon Communications.
