Equiniti
Provider of employee benefits administration and payments services
About Equiniti
The story of Equiniti begins not in a garage, but in a corporate divestiture. In 2007, the private equity firm Advent International carved out the share registration business from Lloyds TSB, creating a new, standalone entity: Equiniti. This business was focused on the complex, behind-the-scenes work of managing shareholder records, a critical function for any publicly traded company. Over the years, Equiniti expanded its services beyond simple share registration, moving into pension administration, employee share plans, and digital solutions for regulated industries. This strategy of becoming a multi-faceted financial administration and technology provider set the stage for its next major move. In October 2015, the company went public on the London Stock Exchange, raising capital to pay down debt and fund further growth. The public journey, however, was just one chapter. A significant turning point came in April 2021, when the US private equity firm Siris Capital made an offer to acquire Equiniti for approximately £673 million. The deal was completed in December 2021, taking the company private once again. This acquisition allowed Siris to combine Equiniti with its existing portfolio company, American Stock Transfer & Trust Company (AST), creating a global leader in shareholder and regulatory technology services.
