About Epifi Technologies

Epifi Technologies Private Ltd. was founded in 2019 by Sujith Narayanan and Sumit Gwalani, the former co-founders of Google Pay in India. Leveraging their experience in building successful fintech products, they launched Fi Money, a neobanking platform targeting India's salaried millennials. The company secured significant funding, totaling over $137 million from prominent investors including Sequoia Capital, Ribbit Capital, and Hillhouse Capital, reaching a peak valuation of $522 million. The Fi Money application was designed as an integrated financial platform. Through a partnership with Federal Bank, it offered users a digital savings account, a VISA debit card with low foreign exchange fees, and tools for unified payment interface (UPI) transactions. The app's core value proposition was to simplify personal finance through features like spending insights, gamified savings called 'FIT Rules', and investment options in mutual funds and US stocks. It aimed to create a seamless user experience, consolidating banking, saving, and investing into a single, intuitive interface. Despite attracting a large user base of up to 3.5 million customers, the consumer-facing neobanking model proved to be financially unsustainable. The business model, reliant on interchange fees and commissions from financial product distribution, generated insufficient revenue to cover the high operational and product development costs within the Indian market. This led to substantial financial losses, with a reported loss-to-revenue ratio of 8:1 in FY23. In a significant strategic shift, Epifi announced in February 2026 that it was pivoting away from consumer banking. By March 11, 2026, the company officially shut down its consumer operations, ending its partnership with Federal Bank and redirecting customers. Epifi has since repositioned itself as an AI-led B2B enterprise, aiming to leverage the underlying technology and data-processing capabilities it developed to offer services to other businesses.
