About Encorp

Encorp is an energy technology firm focused on the distributed energy market, founded in 1992 by a graduate of Colorado State University to develop advanced control and grid interconnection products. The company provides solutions for microgrids, combined heat and power (CHP), and supply-side demand response applications. Encorp operates on a business-to-business model, serving a diverse client base that includes military bases, data centers, hospitals, utilities, and commercial and industrial facilities. Its customers range from large European utilities like E.ON to small rural cooperatives in the U.S. and engineering firms in India. Revenue is generated through the sale of its hardware and software products, as well as engineering and commissioning services for distributed power projects.

The company's core offering is the Egility controls platform, a modular and configurable system for integrating, controlling, and optimizing distributed energy resources (DERs) such as solar panels, wind turbines, energy storage, and traditional generators. Introduced in 2018, Egility is the result of three decades of field experience and enables the creation of microgrids that can operate in parallel with the traditional grid or independently during outages. This system combines hardware and software to manage power resources, aiming to reduce energy costs, improve power reliability, and lower carbon emissions. A key product in its history was the "Gold Box" Generator Power Control, a digital paralleling switchgear. In 2023, Encorp partnered with Natron Energy to develop a Hybrid Power Platform that uses sodium-ion batteries for backup power and peak shaving in industrial applications.

Significant milestones include the installation of its first commercial system in 1997 and a $40 million Series C investment in 2000 to expand its market presence. In 2004, the firm introduced its second-generation Gold Box, partly funded by a Department of Energy grant. By 2013, Navigant Consulting ranked Encorp as one of the top three microgrid control platforms globally. A strategic shift in 2010 focused the company on microgrid and mission-critical projects, leading to the formation of a separate entity, Microgrid Encorp LLC, in 2017 to concentrate solely on this segment. The company's distributed-energy business was acquired by Primary Integration in the early 2010s. Over its history, Encorp has been involved in over 400 projects, controlling more than 1 GW of generation assets across numerous countries.
