The company specializes in providing computing power and cloud infrastructure tailored for artificial intelligence applications. A core part of its mission is to establish a comprehensive, localized AI computing power ecosystem to deliver accessible services to the AI industry.

BEDI was specifically established by the Electronic Control Group to plan, design, construct, and operate the Beijing Digital Economy Computing Power Center. This major E-level intelligent computing center was completed in early 2025 and is designed to empower both traditional sectors through "industrial AI" and accelerate growth in emerging, cutting-edge fields. The center features a sophisticated architecture that includes high-efficiency domestic computing infrastructure, a layer for fundamental AI models and development tools, and an operational layer using digital twin technology for enhanced management.

In a significant move in January 2025, BEDI appointed Xie Dong, a former executive from IBM China with nearly three decades of experience, as its Chief Technology Officer. In his role, Xie is tasked with optimizing the predictive accuracy of AI models and improving the cost-effectiveness of the company's AI solutions. This appointment reflects a broader trend of Chinese technology firms attracting senior talent from global corporations.
