Founded in 2022 by Danish entrepreneur Mads Werner, the Hanoi-based startup allows employees of its partner companies to access a portion of their earned wages on-demand, before the traditional payday. This service is designed to help workers manage unexpected expenses and avoid high-interest or predatory lending options.

The company operates on a B2B2C model, partnering with enterprises in sectors like manufacturing, retail, logistics, and hospitality. Ekko offers two primary revenue models for its corporate clients. The first involves a monthly subscription fee paid by the employer, which is determined by the number of employees. The second model is free for the employer, with employees paying a small, transparent transaction fee for each wage advance they take. As of early 2026, the client base was split evenly between these two models.

The platform consists of a mobile app for employees and an HR portal for employers. Beyond on-demand pay, the app includes features for financial education, such as gamified courses and financial planning tools to help users set savings goals and track spending. In February 2026, Ekko announced a USD 4.2 million seed funding round, a mix of equity and debt, led by Impact Square and Foundation Botnar, with participation from Sagana and several Vietnamese high-net-worth individuals. The company has gained recognition through various awards, including the 'Catapult: Inclusion SE Asia' award from The LHoFT and the Business Innovation Award from Nordcham Vietnam.
