About eekifoods
Eeki Foods, legally known as Eeki Automations Pvt Ltd, is an agritech company founded in 2018 by IIT Bombay alumni Abhay Singh and Amit Kumar. The founders, after brief stints in business development, product design, and IoT, were driven by the need to address global challenges like food security and climate change. They began their research in March 2018 on a small rooftop farm in Kota, Rajasthan, before establishing their first R&D farm in January 2020. The company's name, 'Eeki', is derived from the Japanese concept of 'Ikigai', reflecting a philosophy of a healthy and purposeful life.
The core of Eeki Foods' operation is its patented growing chambers which enable the cultivation of produce without any growing medium like soil or coco-peat. This technology, a form of aeroponics and hydroponics, involves suspending plant roots in the air within these chambers and nourishing them with a nutrient-rich mist. This method significantly reduces the risk of medium-borne diseases. The system is powered by IoT technology, allowing for remote monitoring and control of climate conditions such as temperature, humidity, and nutrient levels, which makes the process less dependent on manual labor and enables year-round cultivation regardless of seasonal changes. The technology claims to use 80-90% less water than traditional farming while producing significantly higher yields. The farms are also designed to be energy self-sufficient, utilizing solar power.
Eeki Foods operates on an asset-light business model, partnering with landowners and other investors who provide land and capital to set up the farms. Eeki then manages the complete operations, from cultivation and harvesting to selling the produce to B2B clients, providing a source of income for its partners. The company initially focused on growing tomatoes and has since expanded to crops like cucumbers, green chilies, musk melon, and eggplants. The produce is sold at prices competitive with local markets ('mandi rates').
Financially, the company has shown significant growth, reporting revenues of ₹29-30 crore in FY23 and projecting ₹63-65 crore for FY24. Eeki Foods has attracted substantial investment through multiple funding rounds, including a $6.5 million Series A round in April 2022 led by General Catalyst, and a $7 million round in mid-2025 led by Sixth Sense Ventures. These funds are aimed at scaling operations across India, including states like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, and even expanding internationally to the Middle East.
