About Edgeware

Edgeware AB, established in 2004 by co-founders Joachim Roos, Kalle Löfgren, and Lukas Holm, positioned itself as a key provider in the content delivery network (CDN) space, specializing in technology for streaming television over the internet. The founders leveraged their deep expertise in networking and video technology, with Roos and Löfgren having previously worked together at the Swedish networking company Effnet. Their vision was to create a system that could deliver TV at a massive scale while ensuring a high-quality viewing experience, a significant challenge in the early days of internet video.

The company's core business revolves around supplying systems to telecom operators, cable companies, and content providers. Edgeware's business model is based on selling its specialized hardware and software solutions that enable clients to build and manage their own powerful TV CDNs. This approach allows customers to retain control over their content delivery, optimize streaming for quality, and reduce associated costs. Its product suite includes the TV Content Creator for ingesting and recording live content for on-demand services and cloud DVR, and the TV Repackager, which converts video assets on-the-fly into various streaming formats like HLS and DASH required by different devices. Another key product, the Ad Enabler, facilitates seamless, frame-accurate insertion of personalized advertisements into live and on-demand video streams.

A significant milestone in Edgeware's history was its acquisition by the Spanish firm Agile Content. In October 2020, Agile Content announced a public takeover bid for Edgeware, valued at approximately SEK 291 million. The board of Edgeware unanimously recommended the offer to its shareholders. By November 2020, Agile Content had secured over 90% of the shares, ensuring the completion of the acquisition. Following the successful takeover, Edgeware AB was delisted from the Nasdaq Stockholm stock exchange, with the last day of trading on January 7, 2021. Today, Edgeware operates as part of the AgileTV brand, which has consolidated several companies to offer a unified platform for video solutions.
