Founded in 2016 by Alexis Korybut and Joseph Nunez, the company established itself as a vertically integrated manufacturer and supplier of hemp-derived specialty ingredients.

The impetus for the company's creation stemmed from co-founder Joseph Nunez's background in fabricating large-scale extraction equipment, which was initially too advanced for the medical cannabis market. Recognizing the burgeoning demand for hemp processing, Nunez, along with Korybut's expertise in finance and capital management, launched EcoGen to address this gap. The company's business model is centered on its vertically integrated 'seed-to-sale' capabilities, encompassing genetics research, farming, proprietary extraction technology, and manufacturing of bulk ingredients and finished products. This structure allows for significant control over the supply chain, from cultivating high-yield feminized CBD seeds to producing raw materials for major brands.

In August 2020, Kadenwood acquired EcoGen Laboratories, rebranding it as EcoGen Biosciences to serve as its primary manufacturing and supply arm. This acquisition created one of the largest vertically integrated suppliers of hemp-derived CBD in the U.S. EcoGen's core business involves supplying bulk and white-label hemp-derived cannabinoids to a diverse client base across the beverage, food, cosmetics, wellness, and pharmaceutical industries. Its product offerings include CBD isolate, THC-free distillates, water-soluble CBD, and custom formulations, which are used in products sold by major retailers. Revenue is generated through the sale of these specialty ingredients and private-label finished goods.
