EBioscience
A wide range of antibodies, elisas, and proteins
About EBioscience
Established in 1999, eBioscience carved a significant niche in the life sciences sector by supplying critical reagents for immunology and oncology research. The company specialized in the development and provision of fluorochrome-conjugated antibodies, reagents for multicolor flow cytometry, highly-validated ELISA and multiplex immunoassay kits, and recombinant proteins. This product portfolio served researchers in academic institutions, as well as biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, enabling detailed analysis of biological systems at the cellular level.
The firm's core business centered on manufacturing and selling a comprehensive catalog of research-use-only products. Its offerings supported a wide array of applications, including cancer research, epigenetics, neuroscience, and stem cell biology. A key part of its commercial strategy involved providing not just off-the-shelf products but also custom services, such as bulk reagent production and contract assay development, which offered tailored solutions for specific research needs.
eBioscience underwent significant corporate transitions, reflecting its value and strategic importance in the market. In October 2009, it acquired Bender MedSystems. A major milestone occurred on November 30, 2011, when Affymetrix acquired eBioscience for approximately $315 million. This integration was short-lived, as Thermo Fisher Scientific later acquired Affymetrix in a deal announced in January 2016 for about $1.3 billion, thereby incorporating the eBioscience portfolio into its Life Sciences Solutions Segment. This final acquisition aimed to expand Thermo Fisher's offerings in the rapidly growing flow cytometry market and strengthen its overall leadership in biosciences.
