Easycep
A marketplace e-commerce platform for buying and selling second hand (refurbished) electronic devices
About Easycep
Easycep operates as a prominent online marketplace in Turkey for refurbished electronic goods, positioning itself as a key player in the circular economy. The company was founded in 2018 by two university friends, Mehmet Akif Özdemir, who serves as the CEO, and İsmail Dinçer. Their journey began after observing the well-developed market for refurbished electronics in Western Europe and identifying a similar need in Turkey. With Özdemir's background in computer engineering, they launched the venture from a small 20-square-meter shop in Kadıköy, initially as a two-person operation.
The business model is centered on a consumer-to-business-to-consumer (C2B2C) framework. Easycep purchases used electronic devices directly from consumers and retail partners, refurbishes them at its 4,000-square-meter facility, and then sells them back to consumers with a 12-month warranty. The product range is extensive, including smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, computers, and even robotic vacuum cleaners. The company generates revenue through the direct sale of these refurbished products via its e-commerce platform, concept stores, and sales points within partner retail chains like Carrefour and Migros. To facilitate the buying process from consumers, Easycep utilizes an online form where users can get an instant quote for their old devices, which are then collected from their address.
Since its inception, Easycep has demonstrated significant growth, securing a total of $12 million in funding over four rounds. A notable Series A funding round in March 2022 raised $11 million at a $100 million valuation, with investors including Re-Pie Portföy, Colendi, and PlatformXIT. This capital has fueled the company's expansion, including increasing its refurbishment capacity and expanding its team, which now numbers over 620 employees. The company has also expanded its operations internationally, entering the markets of Qatar and Azerbaijan in 2023. Easycep has garnered several accolades, including a Gold Stevie® Award for Sustainability Service of the Year in Europe in 2024 and was ranked among the top 100 fastest-growing companies in the Deloitte 2023 EMEA Technology Fast 500.
