Dunzo was an Indian on-demand, hyperlocal delivery platform that offered a wide array of services, including the delivery of groceries, packages, pet supplies, food, and medicines. The company operated an app-based service that connected users with delivery partners to fulfill tasks within major Indian cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi. The company ceased operations in January 2025, with its app and website going offline. Founded in July 2014 by Kabeer Biswas, Ankur Agarwal, Dalvir Suri, and Mukund Jha, Dunzo initially started as a small WhatsApp group in Bengaluru. Biswas, an alumnus of NMIMS, University of Mumbai, had previously founded a company called Hoppr, which was acquired by Hike Messenger in 2014. The company's business model focused on connecting customers, merchants, and delivery partners through its platform, generating revenue from delivery fees, commissions from partner stores, and surge pricing during high-demand periods. Over the years, Dunzo secured significant funding, including Google's first direct investment in an Indian startup in 2017 and a major $240 million round led by Reliance Retail in 2022, where Reliance acquired a 25.8% stake. Dunzo expanded its services to include bike taxis in Gurgaon and quick commerce with the launch of 'Dunzo Daily' in 2021, which promised delivery of essentials within 19 minutes. However, despite raising over $450 million, the company faced significant financial difficulties due to high cash burn from aggressive expansion and intense competition from rivals like Swiggy Instamart, Zomato's Blinkit, and Zepto. These financial pressures led to multiple rounds of layoffs, salary delays, and a drastic scaling down of operations. Co-founders Dalvir Suri and Mukund Jha departed in late 2023, followed by CEO Kabeer Biswas, who joined Flipkart in early 2025. Ultimately, major investor Reliance Retail wrote off its $200 million investment, and the platform ceased all operations.
