Dune Networks raised approximately $55.4 million in venture capital from investors including Pitango Venture Capital, Evergreen Venture Partners, Jerusalem Venture Partners (JVP), and Aurum Ventures. A significant milestone was its acquisition by Broadcom in December 2009 for a net amount of approximately $178 million. This acquisition was driven by the industry's shift toward cloud computing, with Dune's technology poised to help create low-cost, high-performance data center switching for next-generation networks.

Dune's core offering was its SAND (Scalable Architecture for Networking Devices) chipset, a switch fabric architecture designed for non-blocking switching, traffic management, and scheduling. A key benefit of the SAND technology was its scalability in capacity, port rate, and service schemes. This allowed networking equipment to support speeds up to 100Gbps per port and connect over ten thousand servers in a single deployment. The architecture was engineered to extend the lifecycle of packet platforms from the typical three years to ten years or more, aiming to revolutionize the economics of network deployment. The chipset's high integration also reduced the need for external components, offering a more economical solution for system vendors. Following the acquisition, the Dune technology was integrated into Broadcom's product lines, such as the StrataDNX family, continuing to serve datacenter, carrier, and enterprise markets.
