Dr. consulta is a Brazilian healthcare technology company founded in 2011 by Thomaz Srougi, who comes from a family of doctors but has a background in finance. He was joined by co-founders Dr. César Câmara and Galicia Investimentos. The company was established to provide an alternative to Brazil's overcrowded public health system and expensive private insurance. The first medical center was opened in Heliópolis, a large favela in São Paulo, with the mission to offer high-quality, low-cost healthcare to the low-income population.

The company operates as a network of medical centers and a digital health management platform, providing a multi-channel approach to healthcare. Dr. consulta's business model is centered on offering medical appointments, diagnostic exams, dental procedures, and minor surgeries at fixed, affordable prices, often compared to a "McDonald's menu". This model targets the 150 million Brazilians without private health insurance. Services can be accessed through physical clinics, many located near public transport hubs for easy access, and through telemedicine video consultations via its app. The company has expanded to operate numerous clinics, primarily in the metropolitan areas of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Belo Horizonte.

Dr. consulta has raised significant capital to fund its expansion, with a total of $179 million from various investors, including venture capital firms, family offices, and development banks like IDB Invest. A key part of its strategy involves the "Cartão dr.consulta," a subscription-based benefits card that provides discounts on services within its network and at partner pharmacies. The company has also acquired a health plan startup, Cuidar.me, to integrate recurring care models. By focusing on technology, operational efficiency, and a patient-centered approach, Dr. consulta has served millions of patients and aims to be a leading reference in daily healthcare for Brazilians.
