Dongsheng Fusion

Dongsheng Fusion (Shanghai) Technology Co., Ltd., also known as SunUp Fusion, is a developer of advanced energy generation equipment focused on commercializing nuclear fusion. Established in Shanghai in July 2025, the company was spun out of the magnetic confinement fusion research team at Fudan University. The venture is led by founder Xu Min, a Chair Professor at Fudan University's Institute of Modern Physics and Department of Nuclear Science and Technology, who is a recognized expert in the field of magnetic confinement fusion.

Dongsheng Fusion is pursuing a distinct and technologically advanced path to fusion energy by combining a tokamak-based magnetic confinement system with a deuterium-helium-3 (D-He3) fuel cycle. This approach diverges from the more common deuterium-tritium route and is notable because D-He3 reactions produce virtually no high-energy neutrons, which could enable the development of smaller, safer, and more cost-effective compact fusion power plants suitable for deployment near urban centers and data centers. The company's core technological strategy integrates high-temperature superconducting magnets, strong magnetic field confinement, and AI-driven plasma control systems to manage the fusion process.

The company has secured substantial financial backing from prominent investors. After its inception, Dongsheng Fusion raised an angel round of several hundred million yuan from investors including Sequoia China, IDG Capital, and Hillhouse Capital in early 2026. This was followed by a pre-A round in May 2026 and a $100 million Series A round in June 2026, co-led by Qiming Venture Partners, Zhuhai Science & Technology Industry Group, ICBC Capital, and CMC Capital, bringing its total disclosed funding to over RMB 800 million. These funds are allocated to the construction of its first-generation experimental device, named the 'Chenguang' project. This device aims to be the world's first D-He3 fusion experimental platform operating at a 10-tesla magnetic field strength. The company's long-term roadmap is to achieve net energy gain from D-He3 fusion within approximately 12 years.
