About Domicilios.com

Domicilios.com emerged on the Colombian tech scene in 2007, founded by university students José Guillermo Calderón and Miguel McAllister, who were later joined by their first investor and co-founder, Pablo González. Initially conceived as an online directory for restaurants in Bogotá, the venture evolved into a comprehensive food delivery marketplace. The founders, both students at Universidad de Los Andes at the time, identified a gap in the market for a centralized platform for ordering food online.

The company's primary business was an online platform, accessible via web and mobile applications, that connected users with a wide array of restaurants for food delivery. Its business model centered on charging restaurants a commission for orders facilitated through its service. The platform served the general public in various cities across Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador, positioning itself as a key player in the Latin American food delivery market.

Domicilios.com's journey was marked by significant expansion and a series of strategic acquisitions and partnerships. After securing an initial investment of $100,000, the company launched its online ordering concept. A subsequent $1.5 million from the Spanish fund Axon Partners Group fueled its international growth, acquiring platforms in Peru and Argentina. In 2014, German food delivery giant Delivery Hero acquired a majority stake, eventually purchasing 100% of the company and taking it public on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in 2017. This made Domicilios.com the first Colombian startup to be publicly listed. Following the full acquisition, the original founders exited to launch new ventures; McAllister founded Merqueo and Calderón founded Muy (now Robinfood). In April 2020, Brazilian foodtech leader iFood acquired a 51% controlling stake in Domicilios.com from Delivery Hero, aiming to challenge Rappi's dominance in the Colombian market. By June 2021, Domicilios.com ceased to operate as a standalone brand and was fully merged into the iFood platform.
