About Dmzj.com

Dmzj.com, also known as Anime House (动漫之家), was a prominent Chinese online platform for anime, comics, and games (ACG) culture, founded in 2005 by Liu Zheng. It initially started as a forum for enthusiasts and evolved into a comprehensive portal featuring manga, animation, and light novels. The platform was operated by Shangkeqi (Beijing) Network Technology Co., Ltd.

The company established itself as a major hub for China's ACG community, offering a vast library of content that included both licensed and user-uploaded materials. Its business model relied heavily on advertising revenue, driven by a large and active user base. At its peak, Dmzj.com boasted approximately 2 million daily unique visitors and its mobile app, launched in 2014, ranked first in the industry for daily user time spent in the second quarter of 2016. The platform was particularly praised for its editorial team, which curated and recommended a wide variety of manga, helping users discover niche and popular works alike. The main website was structured into several key sections: original comics, anime news, an animation channel, a manga channel, light novels, and community forums.

However, the platform's trajectory shifted significantly with the rise of the "big copyright" era in China's internet landscape around 2012-2013. As major tech companies like Tencent and Bilibili entered the market and acquired exclusive rights to popular titles, Dmzj.com's model, which partly relied on unauthorized fan translations, became increasingly untenable. The company faced legal challenges and regulatory scrutiny, leading to fines and the forced shutdown of its Japanese manga channel in 2021 for hosting illegal content. In an attempt to adapt, the company launched a separate app called "Manfan Comics" in 2018 to focus on original Chinese comics, but this venture did not achieve significant success. Ultimately, facing financial difficulties, regulatory pressure, and the loss of its core content and editorial team, Dmzj.com ceased updates and effectively shut down in September 2025, with its website and app becoming inaccessible.
