Disruptor Beam
Disruptor Beam brings together worldwide fan communities with games created surrounding iconic properties like Game of Thrones & Star Trek
About Disruptor Beam
Disruptor Beam was founded in 2010 by Jon Radoff, an entrepreneur with a background in both enterprise software and gaming. His previous ventures included Eprise, a web content management company that went public, and GamerDNA, a social media company for gamers. Radoff's vision for Disruptor Beam was to create deep, story-driven games for mobile and social platforms, targeting fan communities of major entertainment brands.
The company initially focused on developing free-to-play mobile and browser-based games based on globally recognized intellectual properties. Its portfolio included titles such as "Game of Thrones Ascent" (2013), "Star Trek Timelines" (2016), and "The Walking Dead: March to War" (2017). These games were designed as live-service products, with ongoing content updates and community engagement. The business model centered on in-app purchases, allowing players to buy items to enhance their gameplay.
A significant milestone for the company was the development of its proprietary "Disruptor Engine," a live operations platform that handled backend services like analytics, content delivery, and monetization for its games. This technology was born from the experience of running complex, live-service games. Over time, the company's strategic focus shifted. After selling "Star Trek Timelines" to Tilting Point in early 2020 and shutting down its other game projects, Disruptor Beam pivoted from game development to becoming a technology provider for other game studios. This transition culminated in a rebranding in April 2020, with the company becoming Beamable. The new entity focuses on offering the backend technology, now the Beamable SDK, to other developers to help them build and operate their own live games. However, in October 2020, Beamable, formerly Disruptor Beam, filed for bankruptcy.
