Diffraqtion is a Somerville, Massachusetts-based MIT and University of Maryland spinout building quantum camera platforms for defence and space sensing. Its cameras resolve detail below the diffraction limit of a lens aperture by sorting incoming light by its shape rather than its brightness, pairing photonic hardware with a proprietary model layer that converts raw imagery into real-time intelligence. The passive approach draws on quantum estimation theory rather than quantum computing, requiring no qubits or cryogenics, and targets space domain awareness and reconnaissance applications. The company is led by co-founder and CEO Johannes Galatsanos. After a first close in January 2026 led by Ground State Ventures, Diffraqtion capped its pre-seed round in August 2026 with strategic investments from Lockheed Martin Ventures and Presidio Ventures, alongside SBI US Gateway Fund with Plug and Play, Collaborative Fund and TekVentures and existing investors Aether VC, milemark capital and ADIN, bringing total funding to more than $10 million.
