Daejoo
Advanced electronic and secondary battery materials manufacturer
About Daejoo
In 1981, founder and chairman Lim Moo-hyun established a company called Daejoo Trading. This was the beginning of what would become a specialized electronic materials company. Initially focused on epoxy insulating materials, the company changed its name to Daejoo Precision Chemicals in 1985 and officially entered the electronic materials development business. A key moment came in 2004 when the company, now known as Daejoo Electronic Materials, was listed on the KOSDAQ. A significant pivot occurred with a deep dive into battery technology. While producing various electronic materials like conductive pastes and LED phosphors, the company directed its research and development toward a critical component for the future: silicon anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. This strategic focus paid off; in 2019, Daejoo became the first in the world to commercially supply high-efficiency silicon anode materials. These materials are significant because they can increase a battery's energy density and charging speed, which is crucial for extending the driving range of electric vehicles. This breakthrough, particularly its use in Porsche's Taycan electric sports car, dramatically elevated the company's value. Today, led by the founder's children, Il-Ji Lim and Joong-Kyu Lim, Daejoo Electronic Materials continues to be a key global supplier in the electronic materials industry, with a strong focus on advancing battery technology.
