About Cymax Group

Cymax Group Technologies is an e-commerce technology and logistics company headquartered in Burnaby, British Columbia. Founded in 2004 by Arash Fasihi, the company began as an online furniture retailer. Fasihi, who had experience in IT and retail, saw an opportunity in the online furniture market when he and his wife struggled to buy a TV stand. Initially bootstrapping the company, they launched with a single website and grew to operate around 170 niche micro-sites before consolidating under Cymax.com in 2011.

The company has since evolved from a direct online retailer into a technology and services provider for the furniture industry. Its business model is centered on two main product offerings: Channel Gate and Freight Club. Channel Gate is an AI-powered multichannel platform that helps furniture vendors and manufacturers manage and optimize product listings, integrate with major online marketplaces like Amazon and Walmart, and analyze consumer data. Freight Club is a logistics platform that provides access to a network of over 30 carriers, offering enterprise-rate shipping, quoting, booking, and claims management for large and bulky items. The company also operates its own retail websites, Home Square for consumers and Cymax Business for commercial clients.

A significant milestone was a $25-30 million Series A funding round in 2015, led by Frind Holdings, the investment firm of Plenty of Fish founder Markus Frind. This investment fueled the launch of Freight Club and Channel Gate. Over the years, the company has gained recognition, including being named to Communitech's 'Team True North' as a high-potential tech firm. In March 2024, Markus Frind, who is the majority owner, was appointed CEO, having been an investor and board member since 2015.
