Cortanix
Stealth cybersecurity venture returning capital to investors.
About Cortanix
Cortanix was an Israeli cybersecurity startup founded in December 2023 by Gur Shatz, a veteran entrepreneur and co-founder of Cato Networks. The company operated in stealth mode and attracted significant early-stage investment, securing a $21 million seed round. Investors included prominent figures and firms in the cybersecurity space, such as Dan Amiga, Mickey Boodaei, Rakesh Loonkar, Mike Fey, and the venture capital fund Cyberstarts. Boodaei, Amiga, Loonkar, and Fey later formed a joint investment fund called Picture Capital, which also backed Cortanix.
Gur Shatz's entrepreneurial journey is deeply rooted in Israel's cybersecurity sector. He previously held senior positions at Imperva and co-founded Cato Networks in 2015 with Shlomo Kramer, another pioneer in the industry. Shatz's departure from his role as COO at Cato Networks to establish Cortanix was a notable event in the industry.
Despite the strong backing and the founder's track record, Cortanix ceased operations in October 2025, less than two years after its inception. The company, which never brought a product to market, decided to shut down and return the remaining capital to its investors. The specific reasons for the closure were not publicly commented on by the company.
