About Corn
Corn (usecorn.com) operates as an Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) network, positioning itself as a conduit for integrating Bitcoin into the expansive world of decentralized finance (DeFi). The company launched from stealth mode on August 20, 2024, securing $6.7 million in a seed funding round. The investment was led by Polychain Capital, with participation from other notable venture firms including Binance Labs and Framework Ventures.

The project was co-founded by a team of seasoned DeFi builders, including Chris Spadafora and Zak Cole. Spadafora's background is rooted in entrepreneurship and finance, having graduated from Ryerson University with a Bachelor of Commerce. His journey into the crypto space was driven by a belief in financial freedom, leading him to found BadgerDAO in 2020, a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) focused on bringing Bitcoin to DeFi. This prior experience directly informs Corn's mission. Cole is a serial entrepreneur and protocol engineer with a track record that includes co-founding the DEX aggregator Slingshot and the smart contract auditing platform Code4rena. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran and former Google engineer, his technical expertise is a core asset to the venture.
Corn's business model is centered around its L2 network, which is built using Arbitrum Orbit to ensure scalability. The network's architecture is designed to create a self-sustaining ecosystem called the “Crop Circle” that aligns the interests of users, application developers, and token holders. A key feature of the platform is the use of BTCN, a hybrid tokenized Bitcoin pegged 1:1 to native BTC, as its gas token. This allows Bitcoin holders to utilize their assets within the Ethereum ecosystem without relinquishing their exposure to Bitcoin. Revenue and network activity are driven by a system inspired by veTokenomics, where holders of the native $CORN token can stake their assets to vote on which applications receive a share of the network's yield emissions. This creates a marketplace where protocols can incentivize $CORN stakers for their votes, fostering a competitive and collaborative environment for developers.
