Copenhagen Atomics
Providing cheap, green and abundant energy to drive growth and properity for mankind
About Copenhagen Atomics
Copenhagen Atomics is a Danish clean-energy company founded in 2014 that is reinventing nuclear power using thorium-based molten salt reactors. These reactors are compact, modular, and designed to fit into standard shipping containers, making them easy to manufacture and transport. The company’s goal is to provide affordable, carbon-free energy while reducing the long-term impact of nuclear waste.
Unlike traditional uranium reactors, Copenhagen Atomics uses a mixture of thorium and low-enriched uranium in molten salt, moderated by heavy water. This allows their systems to burn existing nuclear waste and reduce the time it remains hazardous—from 100,000 years to just about 300 years. Each reactor can produce around 100 MW of thermal energy and is designed for mass production, with the potential to build one unit per day.
Copenhagen Atomics offers a "nuclear as a service" model, meaning they will build, operate, and decommission reactors on behalf of clients. This eliminates upfront costs, and the energy they produce is expected to be much cheaper than traditional nuclear—targeting under $20 per MWh at scale.
Their mission is to create a scalable, safe, and sustainable nuclear energy solution to support global clean energy goals.
