Complement Therapeutics

The company's lead product is CTx001, an AAV-based gene therapy being developed for Geographic Atrophy (GA), an advanced form of dry age-related macular degeneration that is a leading cause of blindness. CTx001 is designed to be a single-injection treatment that provides a long-term therapeutic effect, contrasting with other treatments that require regular injections. The company is also developing a pipeline of other potential therapies for complement-mediated conditions beyond ocular diseases. To support its therapeutic development, Complement Therapeutics has created the Complement Precision Medicine (CPM) platform. This diagnostics platform uses mass spectrometry to quantify over 30 proteins in the complement cascade from a single blood sample, allowing for better patient stratification, diagnosis, and monitoring for clinical trials.

Complement Therapeutics is a venture-backed company. It secured €5 million in a seed round in February 2022, co-led by Forbion and BioGeneration Ventures (BGV). This was followed by a larger €72 million ($79.1M) Series A financing in April 2023, led by Gimv and joined by a syndicate of new and existing investors including Cambridge Innovation Capital, Panakès Partners, and Seroba Life Sciences. This funding is intended to advance CTx001 through Phase 1b clinical trials and expand the company's research and development activities. The company is managed by CEO Dr. Rafiq Hasan, who has extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, particularly in ophthalmology at companies like Bayer and Novartis.
