About CoinTribe
Founded in 2015 by Amit Sachdev, Manish Chaudhari, and Rohit Lohia, CoinTribe Technologies operates as an online lending marketplace headquartered in Gurugram, India, with a strategic focus on the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. The founders, all seasoned professionals in finance and banking, established the company to bridge the significant credit gap for small businesses in India. Amit Sachdev, who served as CEO, brought his expertise in business strategy from his time at companies like Boston Consulting Group. Manish Chaudhari, the Chief Risk Officer, holds degrees in Business Economics and an MBA in e-commerce. Rohit Lohia acted as the Chief Digital Officer.
CoinTribe's core business revolves around a digital platform that provides collateral-free loans to MSMEs by connecting them with various banks and Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs). The company caters to small enterprises with turnovers ranging from Rs 1-50 crore, facilitating loans up to Rs 30 lakh. Its business model generates revenue through two main streams: a marketplace model where it earns commissions of 4% to 6% on loans disbursed through its platform, and a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) model. Under the PaaS model, CoinTribe offers its proprietary credit assessment and risk analysis technology to financial institutions to help them underwrite their own customers digitally.
The platform's key feature is its sophisticated credit assessment algorithm, which has been back-tested with large banks, to evaluate the creditworthiness of borrowers. This technology digitizes the entire loan application process, from document collection and risk assessment to fulfillment and repayment management. Borrowers are digitally assessed and assigned a risk rating, which then matches them with the most suitable lender based on the lender's risk appetite and policies. Over its operational history, the company secured significant funding, including a $10 million Series B round in 2018 led by Sabre Partners. By 2019, co-founders Amit Sachdev and Rohit Lohia had exited the company to pursue other opportunities, with Manish Chaudhari also leaving in early 2020. According to some sources, the company is now considered deadpooled.
