About Coin Master

Initially founded as LastRoots in 2016, the company operates as a Japanese cryptocurrency exchange and provides blockchain development services. The firm underwent several name changes, becoming Exia Digital Asset and later Coin Master Co., Ltd., before being acquired by Gate.io in December 2024 and rebranding to Gate Japan K.K. The acquisition was part of Gate.io's strategy to enter the Japanese market with a dedicated, compliant trading platform after ceasing services for Japanese residents earlier that year.

The company first registered as a crypto-asset exchange operator with the Kanto Local Finance Bureau in November 2019. Its history includes navigating significant challenges, such as a business suspension order in late 2022 due to insufficient working capital and operational issues under its previous parent company, Exia. After separating from the Exia group and securing external funding, the company resumed operations as Coin Master in February 2023. The exchange, formerly known as c0ban exchange, was the sole platform in Japan for trading the c0ban cryptocurrency, which was developed by LastRoots in 2016.

Under the new ownership of Gate.io, Gate Japan aims to provide a localized and compliant trading platform for Japanese users. The business model focuses on offering comprehensive support for projects looking to enter the Japanese market, including compliance assistance, localization services, community building, and marketing strategies. The firm leverages its eight years of operational experience and a track record of zero hacking incidents to assure high security and reliability for its clients.
