Chengdu Ledong Information Technology Co., Ltd., operating under the brand name Codoon, was established in 2011 by founder and CEO Shen Bo. Before venturing into entrepreneurship, Shen Bo gained experience in the telecommunications sector, including a middle-management role at Nokia Siemens Networks, after graduating from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. His initial foray into business involved developing smart lockers, which was eventually sold due to funding and technology constraints.

The company initially concentrated on developing hardware, such as wristwatch-like fitness trackers. Recognizing the challenges in hardware development for a startup, including supply chain control, the focus shifted towards software. This strategic pivot led to the development of the Codoon running app in 2012, which integrated social networking features. This was followed by the launch of their first wearable, the Codoon Smartband S, in 2013. The firm's evolution continued from being a hardware manufacturer to a smart hardware solution and data provider, opening its platform to third parties in 2014.

Codoon operates in the competitive smart wearables and fitness social network market. The business model integrates hardware and software to monitor users' physical activities, such as running and sleep patterns, and stores this data in the cloud. The company's product ecosystem includes a range of smart devices like wristbands, step counters, and Bluetooth body scales. These devices sync with the Codoon mobile application, which tracks user activity, collects data, and provides suggestions. The platform's revenue generation is linked to its online market and services, which include interactive online fitness classes and a social platform for its user community. The company has an overseas brand called Runtopia to cater to its international users.

The company has secured significant financial backing, raising a total of $133 million over seven funding rounds. Key investors include SBCVC, Shenzhen Capital Group, SIG China, and Huaying Securities. A notable funding event was a $50 million Series C round in May 2016. The most recent funding was a $20 million Series C round on December 10, 2021.
