KluraLabs
Shelf-life extending materials for fresher food
About KluraLabs
KluraLabs (Klura Labs, formerly Codikoat) is a UK-based material science company founded in 2020 that develops active food packaging and coating materials to help food last longer. Its mission is to transform the global food system, from field to fridge to fork, by upgrading the everyday materials that surround us into a defence against bacteria and mould, and its promise is fresher food for longer.
Its breakthrough material turns ordinary food packaging into an active barrier against bacteria and mould, which increases shelf life, reduces food waste and lessens the need for preservatives in the foods people consume. The company frames the technology as proven, effective, low-cost and ready for global adoption, and describes its work as innovating systems against bioburden, with benefits to businesses, to people and to the planet.
The innovation hub is anchored in the UK and led by a team of scientists, engineers and innovators, including a core group of around eighteen PhDs and engineers. KluraLabs works with major retailers so that its solutions are grounded in scientific expertise and proven commercial impact, and it offers the technology to retailers, distributors and food manufacturers who want to cut waste in the supply chain.
The business model is to supply its materials and technology to the food supply chain, through partnerships and licensing with retailers, packaging converters and manufacturers. KluraLabs operates in the food packaging, food preservation and food waste reduction market, competing with conventional barrier films, preservatives and other active packaging technologies on cost and effectiveness.
