About Codeship

Codeship is a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform for continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) that automates software testing and deployment. Founded in 2011 by Moritz Plassnig, Florian Motlik, and Manuel Weiss in Vienna, Austria, the company was originally named Railsonfire. Plassnig served as the CEO, while Motlik was the CTO. The company later established its headquarters in Boston, with additional offices in Berlin and Vienna.

In February 2018, CloudBees, a provider of enterprise Jenkins and DevOps solutions, acquired Codeship. The acquisition aimed to expand CloudBees' portfolio to include an easy-to-use, self-service CI/CD solution for a broader market segment, from individual developers to large enterprises. Following the acquisition, the entire Codeship team, including its executives, joined CloudBees, and its products were rebranded as Codeship Basic by CloudBees and Codeship Pro by CloudBees. By the time of the acquisition, Codeship had attracted over 100,000 developers and 2,400 customers and had raised more than $11 million in venture funding.

Codeship's platform is designed to accelerate software delivery by simplifying the build, test, and deployment pipeline. It integrates with source control management systems like GitHub, Bitbucket, and GitLab, automatically triggering builds and tests with every code commit. The platform offers two main products: Codeship Basic, which provides a straightforward, out-of-the-box CI environment, and Codeship Pro, which offers more advanced features like native Docker support, customizable workflows, and parallel execution for more complex projects. The service supports a hybrid model, allowing organizations to run builds in the cloud while hosting their code on-premise. Codeship is designed to be language-agnostic and integrates with major cloud providers, making it a flexible tool for various development needs.
