Community banking with personal and business financial services
About Cnbil
The story of CNB Bank & Trust, N.A. begins not with one, but with the combined histories of several Illinois community banks, the oldest of which dates back to 1854. In Carrollton, Illinois, a bank first operated from a local mercantile, simply called "David Pierson, Banker." Thirty-four years later, in 1888, the Carlinville National Bank (CNB) was founded, with Abraham Lincoln Hoblit providing leadership for its first 50 years. These institutions formed the deep roots of what would become a larger entity. A pivotal moment came in 1984 when the shareholders of Carlinville National Bank, under the direction of then-president and CEO Charles H. Ashworth, formed a holding company, Carlinville National Bank Shares, Inc. (CNBS). This structure allowed for greater flexibility and growth. Beginning in 1996, CNBS embarked on a series of acquisitions, purchasing several local banks over the years. A significant consolidation occurred in 2011 when four bank charters under the holding company were merged into one, officially named CNB Bank & Trust, N.A. This strategic move created the oldest continuously active bank charter in Illinois. The growth continued, and in 2018, CNB announced the acquisition of Jacksonville Bancorp, Inc., further expanding its footprint. That same year, the holding company, renamed CNB Bank Shares, Inc. in 2013, joined the OTCQX Best Market, trading under the symbol “CNBN.”
