The founders, Christian Owens, who previously founded the payments unicorn Paddle, and Alex Loizou, co-founder of the e-commerce marketplace Trouva, started Clove to provide a service they wished they had access to earlier in their lives. Their experience in building and scaling technology companies is central to Clove's strategy. The company's mission is to democratize wealth management by using AI to automate administrative tasks, allowing human advisers to focus on providing personalized guidance to a broader range of clients, including young professionals, families, and entrepreneurs.

In October 2025, Clove announced it had raised $14 million in a pre-seed funding round led by Accel, with participation from Kindred Capital, Air Street Capital, and several angel investors. This capital is intended to fund product development and team expansion, including the hiring of financial advisers, engineers, and designers. The company plans a full launch of its platform in the UK in 2026, pending regulatory approval from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Clove's business model is a B2C, AI-augmented advisory service that aims to serve clients with as little as £10,000 in assets, a significantly lower threshold than traditional financial advisers.
