Cilcare is a biotechnology company established in 2014, operating primarily in the drug discovery and auditory sciences sectors. The company was founded in Montpellier, France, by Celia Belline, Dr. Marie-Pierre Pasdelou, and Dr. Sylvie Pucheu, three women with extensive backgrounds as scientists and executives in the pharmaceutical industry, including at Sanofi. Their shared ambition was to address the significant unmet medical needs for individuals suffering from ear disorders.

The company's business model functions in two main capacities: as a Contract Research Organization (CRO) and as a developer of its own therapeutic pipeline. This condition is often undetectable with standard audiograms. To fund this development, Cilcare secured €40 million in a Series A funding round in late 2024, with notable investors including Shionogi & Co. and SPRIM Global Investments. This capital is earmarked for two Phase 2a clinical trials for CIL001, set to begin in 2025 across Europe and the United States. The trials will focus on patients with Type 2 diabetes and those with neurodegenerative disorders, populations where a high prevalence of cochlear synaptopathy has been identified.

A key component of Cilcare's strategy is the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning. The company uses these technologies to identify auditory biomarkers and develop digital auditory signatures. This data-driven approach allows for better patient selection for clinical trials and a more precise evaluation of therapy effectiveness, aiming to increase the probability of success for its treatments. Through its dual focus on providing specialized R&D services and developing its own therapeutics, Cilcare aims to pioneer solutions for hearing impairments, positioning hearing as a key indicator of overall health.
