ChrysaLabs
Real-time soil nutrient and health analysis probe
About ChrysaLabs
ChrysaLabs, founded in 2017 by Samuel Fournier, Benjamin De Leener, Gabriel Mangeat, and Jacques Michiels, is a Montréal-based agricultural technology company. The founders' initial experience in the biomedical industry with spectroscopy inspired them to apply this knowledge to the precision agriculture sector. The company operates on a business-to-business model, primarily serving agronomists, agricultural consultants, farm co-ops, and fertilizer retailers. Revenue is generated through an annual subscription model which provides users with unlimited soil sampling.

ChrysaLabs has developed a portable probe that provides real-time analysis of soil health and nutrients. This technology combines a patented spectroscopy interface with artificial intelligence to deliver results in under 30 seconds, a significant reduction from the days or weeks required for traditional lab tests. The probe can measure approximately 40 different parameters, including macronutrients (N, P, K), micronutrients, pH, organic matter, and moisture. All data is automatically georeferenced and uploaded to a cloud platform via a mobile app, allowing for the creation of precise fertilization maps. This enables users to make immediate, data-driven decisions about fertilizer application and land management.
The company has expanded its focus to include the carbon verification market, offering a solution to accurately measure soil carbon content, which is crucial for farmers participating in carbon credit programs. ChrysaLabs' technology has been utilized across more than two million acres in seven countries. The company has secured significant funding, including a Series A round of $11 million USD in May 2023, with investors like Leaps by Bayer, TELUS Ventures, and BDC Capital.
