ChiliSleep™: Cooling Mattress Pads, Bed Coolers & More
About ChiliSleep
ChiliSleep is a brand operating under the umbrella of Sleepme Inc., a company focused on sleep technology. The business was initially founded as Kryo Inc. in 2007 by the husband-and-wife team, Todd and Tara Youngblood. The inspiration for the company came from their personal experiences; Todd was a hot sleeper, and Tara, a physics major and scientist, sought a scientific solution to improve their sleep quality. Their journey began with designing and bringing new products to market, which led to the creation of their first product, the chiliPAD, in 2007.
The company's core business revolves around creating and selling hydro-powered, temperature-regulating sleep systems. These systems are designed for individuals seeking to optimize their rest by controlling their sleeping temperature. The business operates on a direct-to-consumer model, selling its products through its website. The target market includes anyone looking to improve sleep quality, with a notable following among athletes and top performers who use the products for enhanced physical recovery. Revenue is generated from the sale of these sleep systems and related accessories. In November 2021, the parent company Kryo rebranded to Sleepme Inc. to reflect a broader vision of tackling the entire spectrum of sleep through content and services.
ChiliSleep's product line includes several iterations of its core technology. The original chiliPAD was followed by the OOLER system, which offered app-based controls. The current flagship product is the Dock Pro sleep system, which features a control unit that is quieter and has nearly double the cooling capacity of previous models. The system includes the Chilipad Pro, a mattress topper with a tubeless design for increased cooling surface area and comfort. The temperature of the pad, which can be set between 55°F and 115°F (approximately 13°C to 46°C), is controlled via the Sleepme app, which allows users to schedule temperature adjustments throughout the night. For an additional subscription fee, users can access the sleepme+ membership, which includes the sleepme Insight sleep tracker. This non-wearable device monitors sleep metrics like heart rate and respiratory rate to provide AI-driven, real-time temperature adjustments.
A significant milestone for the company occurred in December 2020, when Kryo merged with Ebb Therapeutics, a sleep technology company known for its clinically validated sleep devices. The merger was supported by a $37 million investment led by KKR, aimed at accelerating growth in the global sleep market. In July 2023, the Sleepme and Chilipad brands were acquired by Sleep Solutions Inc. after a period of business interruption.
