About Cethar

The story of the Cethar Group is one of multiple ventures under a single banner, primarily in the industrial and food sectors. Cethar Limited, formerly Cethar Vessels Ltd, was established in 1981 by K. Subburaj, a first-generation entrepreneur. The company began its operations in 1984, focusing on manufacturing boilers for industrial applications and eventually grew to construct thermal power plants. A separate entity, Cethar Foods Private Limited, was also founded in 1984 by S. Ramanathan. This company established itself as a manufacturer of rice bran oil and other rice bran products. Over the years, the Cethar name has been associated with various industries, including textiles and consulting. A significant event in the journey of one of the Cethar entities was the acquisition of Cethar Consulting Engineers by Tractebel Engineering in 2013, which aimed to expand Tractebel's footprint in India's thermal power sector. Cethar Limited faced a major challenge, leading to it undergoing a Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process, which concluded with its acquisition by Tricon Auctions Private Limited in 2019. More recently, in August 2025, another entity, Cethar Hospital, had its kidney transplant license permanently canceled by the Tamil Nadu government following an investigation into an illegal organ trafficking racket.
