Certideal is a French e-commerce platform specializing in the sale of refurbished electronics, established in November 2015. The company was co-founded by Laure Cohen and Yoann Valensi. Their entry into the refurbished market was driven by personal disappointment with the quality of available products, which inspired them to create a service that could offer reliability and trust. Valensi brought a background in finance and law, having earned a Master of Science in Finance from Emlyon Business School and worked as a lawyer and analyst. Cohen, who serves as CEO, has become a notable figure in the French tech scene.

The company operates a distinct business model by managing the entire value chain in-house, from sourcing to sales. Unlike a typical marketplace that connects buyers and sellers, Certideal acquires used electronic devices, primarily smartphones, from sources like leading telephone operators. It leverages its Responsible Recycling (“R2”) certification to acquire high-quality, traceable devices. Each product undergoes a rigorous inspection and certification process in the company's own workshops before being sold directly to consumers via its proprietary website. This integrated approach allows for stringent quality control, enabling the company to offer a 24-month warranty on its products, a key differentiator from competitors. Revenue is generated directly from the sale of these refurbished electronics to B2C clients and through B2B sales to operators and retail actors.

Initially launched in France, Certideal has expanded its operations across Europe, with a presence in Spain, Italy, Belgium, Portugal, and Sweden. This growth has been supported by several funding rounds, totaling over $27 million, with significant investments from firms like Meridiam, MAIF Avenir, and BNP Paribas Développement. The company was selected to join the French Tech 120 program in 2020, recognizing its potential as a global technology leader. Beyond its commercial activities, Certideal demonstrates a strong commitment to social and environmental impact. It is recognized as a Social and Solidarity Economy company and runs the "CertiAcademie," a program designed to train individuals, including those in economic distress, in the skills of electronics repair.
