About CBCLOUD
CBcloud operates as a logistics platform, aiming to address structural issues within the Japanese logistics industry. The company was founded in October 2013 by Ryuichi Matsumoto, who serves as the CEO. Matsumoto's journey began after he took over his late father-in-law's chilled delivery business. A former air traffic controller, he experienced the challenges of the logistics industry firsthand as a driver, which motivated him to leverage IT for industry-wide improvements. Initially, he realized that simply offering lower prices devalued the drivers' work and decided instead to focus on the value of an efficient, quality-guaranteed system. This led to the sale of the existing transport business and the establishment of CBcloud to focus on a broader platform solution.
The company's core business revolves around its delivery matching platform, "PickGo," which directly connects shippers with a network of freelance drivers, referred to as "partners". This model circumvents the traditional multi-layered subcontracting structure, allowing for faster and more efficient vehicle arrangements. As of December 2024, the platform had over 60,000 registered drivers and achieved a 99.2% matching rate. The business generates revenue by facilitating these connections for a wide range of delivery needs, from urgent and same-day deliveries to regular route services, catering to both corporate and individual clients. The platform accommodates various vehicle types and temperature requirements (ambient, chilled, frozen) and even offers air-land integrated transport services through partnerships with airlines like JAL and ANA Cargo.
In addition to the matching service, CBcloud provides "SmaRyu," a SaaS-based logistics management system designed to streamline operations for transport companies and delivery businesses. This suite of tools helps with tasks such as digitizing case entry, creating dispatch schedules, optimizing delivery routes with AI, and automating invoicing and daily reports. To further support its driver partners, CBcloud has introduced programs that offer assistance with vehicle maintenance, joint use of commercial vehicles, and cargo insurance. The company has also expanded through acquisitions, such as MagicalMove Inc. to grow its home delivery segment and Ecohai Co., Ltd. to strengthen its last-mile delivery capabilities.
