About CareMedic Systems

CareMedic Systems, founded in 1996, established itself as a key provider of revenue cycle management (RCM) software for the healthcare industry. The company focused on delivering solutions that streamlined cash flow and accelerated the reimbursement process for its clients, which primarily consisted of hospitals and healthcare providers across the United States and Puerto Rico. A significant milestone in its history was the launch of its flagship product in 1997, which offered customers real-time direct entry to Medicare, a critical function for healthcare providers.

The company's core business centered on its comprehensive suite of RCM solutions designed to manage every stage of a hospital's revenue cycle. This included patient registration, eligibility verification, financial clearance, compliance, and denials management. CareMedic's offerings were built around its proprietary Electronic Financial Record (eFR®) platform. This platform provided a consolidated, real-time view of a patient's financial record, enabling healthcare providers to make informed decisions to improve payment speed and efficiency. The product lineup included VerifyAR for front-end tasks like eligibility and compliance, AccelerateAR for claims management, and OptimizeAR for payment and denial management. The company operated on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) and business process outsourcing (BPO) model, offering both technology platforms and managed services for tasks like accounts receivable management and credit balance resolution.

In November 2009, CareMedic Systems was acquired by Ingenix, the health information technology subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group. At the time of the acquisition, CareMedic had contracts with over 2,500 provider facilities. The strategic rationale behind the acquisition was to combine Ingenix's expertise in reimbursement and health information management with CareMedic's enterprise-wide RCM capabilities. The goal was to create a unified, patient-centric financial management system that addressed the fragmentation and lack of interoperability common in RCM processes. Ingenix, which was later rebranded as Optum, integrated CareMedic's solutions to enhance its own offerings, aiming to simplify the healthcare system and reduce administrative waste.
