Buntar Aerospace is a Ukrainian defense technology company established in August 2023 by Ivan Kaunov, Kateryna Bezsudna, and Bohdan Sas. The company's inception was driven by co-founder Ivan Kaunov's experience as a reconnaissance drone pilot, which highlighted the need for more resilient and sophisticated guidance systems to minimize drone losses during missions. The firm develops and manufactures comprehensive solutions for UAV navigation and control, targeting the military and defense market. Its business model centers on producing high-end, reusable surveillance drones and supplementary software, a departure from the prevalent use of low-cost, disposable drones. Buntar Aerospace has secured approximately $2.2 million in funding from a mix of Ukrainian and international private investors, as well as grants from programs like Brave1. Buntar Aerospace's product suite includes both hardware and software designed to operate in complex, electronically contested environments. Its flagship hardware is the "Buntar" series of tactical reconnaissance UAVs, including the Buntar-1 and the more recent Buntar-3. These drones feature vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capabilities, a tactical range of up to 80 km, and are constructed with high-end Western components to resist jamming. A key software product is "Buntar Copilot," an AI-powered platform for mission planning and execution that automates up to 90% of an operator's workload. This system generates dynamic flight plans by integrating data like situational awareness, weather forecasts, and terrain maps, and is compatible with other UAV systems. The company is also developing an AI-driven navigation system that operates without GPS, further enhancing its resistance to electronic warfare.
